From the Desk of Chairman

Dear Team HPGB,

scan0002

At the very outset, I immensely acknowledge the trust and confidence entrusted upon me to hold the responsibility of heading such an esteemed institution. It is with great humility, respect and excitement that I take on the role of the Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Gramin Bank, a prestigious institution that has seeded the banking system of Himachal Pradesh since 1976.

Humility, because I know how important the bank is to the people of the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Respect, because I know the role of Regional Rural Banks, these institutions have played in development of Rural India. Today, Himachal Pradesh is known to be a model hill development state. Lots of credit goes to our bank for this achievement.

Excitement, because I see the opportunity knocking at the door and we just have to grab it. The world of banking is changing fast and we have superb people with us and strong business environment necessary to play a meaningful role in this change. It won’t be easy, and will require hard work and some tough decisions about how to prioritize our efforts, but I am fully confident that we have a bright future together.

For those who do not know me yet…

I am 53 years old, married and have 2 kids. I was born and brought up at Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar. I joined Punjab National Bank on 01.08.1988 as an Agricultural Officer. I have served as Branch head of medium, large, very large and exceptionally large branches as well as in administrative offices like circle office, Zonal office and Head offices of Punjab National Bank.
Many who know me say I am also defined by my curiosity and thirst for learning. I fundamentally believe that if you are not learning new things, you stop doing great and useful things.

I also take this opportunity to share with our vision and goals, we will be striving for in near future. To make our bank fundamentally strong our focus of efforts should be to maintain a strong balance sheet of the bank, which is entirely possible through 4 main tasks:-

i. Increase in Credit.
ii. Increase in CASA.
iii. Reduction in NPA
iv. Financial Inclusion.

In recent times, NPA has emerged as a major crisis in our country. In our bank also, in order to pave way for system generated NPA, our bank has classified the NPA as per system synchronization, which resulted in raising Gross NPA level above 13%. However, with the consistent team efforts, its level is continuously coming down on daily basis and which is now 11.80% as on date. Similar continued efforts are urgently required at all levels in near future.

Further, we should also strive for reducing credit risks and operational risks that bank faces on daily basis, which is possible with following disciplined, systematic and organized working approach in day to day functions. All officers should be aware of relevant guidelines related to credit disbursement and NPA reduction. All staff members should be updated with e-circular’s website for latest circulars and guidelines on daily basis.

Completing these short term aims mentioned above will give us a positive thrust to achieve Vision 2019 which was launched on 18.09.2016 and eyes to take our bank to pinnacle of banking system of Himachal Pradesh.

I earnestly appeal to all my Colleagues and dedicated members of HPGB Parivaar to contribute their best through constructive suggestions, novel ideas and support, to enable our bank to scale new heights and achieve the Objectives and Goals in the years to unfold.

I hope, I will spend a great time working with you and we will achieve tons of success in years to come.

With warm regards,

(UDAY CHANDRA)
